HOW TO FIX ACTIVEX CONTROL WARNING

What Does the Live Camera Do?

The live remote control camera allows you to move  (pan) and zoom (size and resolution or actual digital zoom) the camera lens while watching live video from the Dogwindow.com webcam site!   See Sherman and Marco, the Italian Greyhounds moving in real-time!  Up to ten people can be connected at one time, so be nice, and don't fight over the camera movement controls!  Please don't stay connected for long periods of time, as it prevents others from using the camera, and I will then be forced to take it offline.

Anyone can Watch Live Video?

Yes, but the speed of your connection affects how many frames per second you can receive.  A fast Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, etc.) can see up to 15 frames per second.  A typical dialup connection will get a frame every few seconds.  As a rule of thumb, you should select Live if you have a fast Internet connection such as DSL or cable modem.  Choose Auto Refresh if you have a dialup connection, or Snapshot if you have a very slow connection.  If you're unable to install the OCX component because you receive a warning about running ActiveX controls, you can view this information on how to fix the issue.  If you still have problems, you should try the Snapshot option

Do I have to install any software?

The very first time you connect to the camera, your browser will automatically download the OCX plug-in.  The Kyushu OCX plug-in is what allows you to control the camera.  You'll receive a plug-in installation notice that looks like this:

Just click the Yes button, and the plug-in will automatically install in your web browser within a few seconds.  If you prefer, you may download the OCX control plug-in as a separate program (Windows setup) here.  Simply unzip the file and run the ActiveXInst program, and click the install button.  However, it's easier just to let your browser do it automatically the first time you connect to the camera.  If needed you can download the older version here (and run the reghcm10 program inside the zip).

What will I see?

After the plug in installs, you'll see a web page with a live video window, similar to this:

On the left you'll find several buttons for control and changing resolution.  You can even start capturing frames in a buffer, and then go back and look through the frames.  However, the most important controls are in the top left:

The arrow keys will move the camera around, one "notch" at a time.  The pan scan button will move the camera all the way to the left and right edge in a "sweeping motion".  The brightness controls are important as the camera is available both in the daytime and night.  If the picture seems too bright or too dark, click the STD button under brightness to reset the brightness.

NOTE:  SOME OF THE CAMERA WEB PAGE FEATURES SUCH AS MULTI AND BUFFERING MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE.   ESSENTIALLY, WHAT IS AVAILABLE FOR YOU IS THE  INDIVIDUAL CONTROL OF THE CAMERA.  THOSE WITH FAST CONNECTIONS WILL RECEIVE ABOUT 15 FRAMES PER SECOND.  SLOWER (DIALUP) CONNECTIONS WILL GET AN UPDATED FRAME EVERY 4 TO 10 SECONDS.  FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE KX-HCM10 AND KX-HCM280 ZOOM NETWORK CAMERA , GO TO WWW.PANASONIC.COM
