May 31, 199 Day 16 Off and running (driving) to Stonehenge. Not much happened between Plymouth and the Salisbury Plains where Stonehenge is. I have heard lots of things over the years about Stonehenge and all of the Druid lore. I guess you could feel vibes if you wanted to... There was to much of the oh how did they do this and the nearest similar stones is a 170 miles away and the smallest stone several tons. Oh how did they do it... feel the vibes the energy the force. Now you are a Jedi master. Ok, I know... I liked the stones and the history that they bring. The people took a lot of time to do what they did to get those stones into place. What they did around them? I am glad that I saw them and I only wish that I could have spent some time there alone to reflect and think about what might have happened there. Not to find answers but to reflect.
So from there we drove through the town Salisbury. This city is suppose to have the tallest church steeple over 400 feet. It is off center by 3 to 5 feet now I hear but it is still standing. On to Winchester which is an old Roman town I can tell that this would have been a great town to spend some time in. It reminded me of York just with lots more people.
From there it was a mad dash to catch a ferry over to the Isle of Wight. Once we got over there we went to the Osburne House. This s where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert went for a summer home. After Prince Albert died the Queen stayed here all the time. She died in this house. The inside has not changed that much since she died. From there we went back across the Ferry and than to Portsmouth. We stayed in the Hilton National and got to enjoy another pool and sauna. Tomorrow we head to London.
