May 30, 1999 Day 15 We were up and at it this morning. We are spending two days in Plymouth so we didn't have to move out of our rooms just be up and going for a ride on a boat in the harbor. We saw the steps that the Pilgrims used to board the Mayflower, plus Drakes Island and several other sites and near the end we saw lots of military boats. At our take out spot there were a couple of bridges. One for the train built back in the 1800's and the other built in the last 10 years or less and after doing a check on the bridges the new one is already in need of repairs while the old one just keeps on going and going. Says something about how we build these days doesn't it?
So from there we headed toward Lands End. On our way we drove through Penzance seeing St. Michael's Mount and Marazion which use to be where ever thing ended and from there you had to get a different means of transportation to go further toward Lands End or other towns. Lands End use to be this great place from what I gathered. Now it is a trap because it can be. All that is there is the ocean. You know it could have been anyplace. It is suppose to be the furthest point so people stop so that they can say they stood there. Now someone went and put in all of these stores and made it feel like and amusement park. What a joke.
Now we head to another tourist trap... St. Ives. I like this town a lot. Except for all the people. We went out into the harbor during low tide. It is great you can walk among all the boats that are in the harbor during this time. We found some more locals and spent almost all our time talking with them. What a great time we had. I love hanging with the locals. From there we headed back to Plymouth were Keith and I had enough time to get our laundry done. Keith worked on our tour directors computer while I headed out to the Barbaican to stand on the steps that the pilgrims stood on. It was a great to know that I was standing on the same steps that they stood on 379 years later. While out there I met this gentleman from Stirling, Scotland. We had so much fun talking. I can't wait to get back to Scotland. That was the end of my day and I must say. I loved it.
