Ultimate Litter Box Parts List and Summary Installation

Important Note:   This listing and summary is only meant as a general guide for convenience.    A licensed contractor or plumber should evaluate the specific requirements for your local building codes and installation.  Your materials and components may differ!

Note, it is also possible to use different brands and quality of major components (including metals, finish, etc.) to significantly reduce the cost in parts.   In addition, a licensed plumber can usually get a discount on parts through his or her sales channels.  All of the parts here except the Sloan Flushometer are available at local hardware stores such as Home Depot and Lowes.    The Flushometer may be ordered online or purchased at a local commercial plumbing supply store.

Here is a summary of parts we used in our installation and an estimated full retail cost:

Summary Installation

  1. Survey the site to determine accessibility and plumbing materials requirements.
  2. Measure the height required for the shower base.  Mark the base.   Make a rough cut to remove the bulk (and weight) of the top of the single shower unit.   Make a second (fine) cut to get to the exact height.
  3. Cut the water supply off -- and drain lines.
  4. Access the tub/shower water lines.   Insert T connectors to hot and cold supply lines.   Attach PEX lines to T, and run lines over and up into wall where the shower valve will be located.
  5. Mount the shower valve in the wall at the desired height.  Attach the the hot and cold supply lines.
  6. Cap the line which normally goes to the spout.
  7. Attach IPT and PEX connectors to outlet leading to shower nozzle.   Attach desired length of PEX tubing going up to shower nozzle.
  8. Mount the shower nozzle assembly in the wall and finish connections.   Attach shower massage sprayer/nozzle.   Turn water back on.   Test the water connections for leaks.   Adjust as needed.
  9. Place the shower base in desired location.  Mark and cut hole in floor.  Make sure to measure and level carefully -- and leave enough room around the unit for mounting the trim and supports.  Depending upon space and access, you may want to pre-install the supports and mounting braces for the trim prior to putting the shower base in place.   If installing a Flushometer, be sure to measure and account for the distances and widths required.  (See photos for a better idea).
  10. Mount the drain assembly to the shower base.   Clean, prime and glue the trap in place underneath.
  11. Run the drain pipe from the trap to the appropriate location of the existing drain line.  Be sure to account for proper angles to provide adequate (and proper) water flow rate.
  12. Cut the existing drain line.   Clean, prime, and glue the street "Y" into place.
  13. Clean, prime, and glue the drain line into the street "Y" and into the trap.
  14. Thoroughly test all plumbing and draining.   Make adjustments as required.
  15. Install trim around box as required/desired.
  16. Install optional Flushometer and flush drain line around edge.  Trim as desired.
  17. Rough in the drywall covering and apply first coat of tape and mud.
  18. Rough sand and repeat mud application/sanding as needed.
  19. Do the final sanding of the dry wall patched areas.
  20. Paint and clean as required.
